France delivers 1,000 infantry recon drones to Army
Delivery of Low-Cost Drones to French Army
France’s defense procurement agency, known as the Direction générale de l’armement (DGA), has successfully delivered 1,000 units of the low-cost “drone du combattant” systems to the Armée de Terre. This delivery represents the initial phase of a fast-tracked acquisition initiative that was kickstarted last year. The drones, designed for infantry reconnaissance, aim to enhance soldiers’ situational awareness on the battlefield with affordable, easy-to-deploy technology.
Details of the Acquisition Process
The order for these 1,000 micro-drones was officially placed on June 30, 2025, in collaboration with the French company Harmattan. Following the order, the DGA expedited the production and delivery process to meet urgent military needs. These systems are compact, user-friendly drones intended for short-range reconnaissance missions, providing real-time intelligence to ground troops without the complexity of larger unmanned aerial vehicles.
