The exercise took place in a controlled environment, allowing crews to simulate real-world scenarios and enhance operational readiness.
Systems Deployed
The drill prominently featured three distinct Chinese SAM systems, each tailored to different engagement ranges. The long-range FD-2000B provided extended coverage against aerial threats, while the medium-range KS-1C offered versatile mid-tier defense options. Complementing these was the short-range FM-90, designed for close-proximity intercepts. These systems represent Uzbekistan’s adoption of cost-effective, export-oriented technology from China, which has become a key supplier in the global arms market.
Training Objectives and Activities
The primary focus of the exercise was an integrated air defense target practice, emphasizing crew proficiency in critical skills such as threat detection, precise tracking, and effective engagement. Missiles from all three systems were successfully launched, simulating responses to incoming aerial targets. This hands-on approach not only tested the hardware’s reliability but also refined coordination among units, ensuring seamless operation in potential conflict scenarios.
Strategic Implications
By incorporating these Chinese systems, Uzbekistan is signaling a shift toward diversified defense partnerships beyond traditional suppliers like Russia.
