Musk elaborated on his upbringing in South Africa, revealing a childhood immersed in Jewish culture that shaped his worldview. He recounted attending Hebrew preschool at Rachel Sparrow and growing up surrounded by many Jewish people, which fostered close relationships that persist to this day.

Musk noted that about two-thirds of his friends are Jewish, a fact he attributes to natural affinities rather than deliberate choice, highlighting how these connections have made him feel deeply integrated into Jewish communities. He also mentioned his name, Elon, often being perceived as inherently Jewish, leading to assumptions about his heritage that he has had to correct over the years, yet he embraces this association warmly.

In a light-hearted yet sincere manner, Musk shared anecdotes from his youth, including a trip to Israel at age 13 where he visited sites like Masada, further deepening his cultural ties. He humorously admitted to sometimes pondering his own identity, joking that he forgets to ask himself, “Am I Jewish?” This led to his self-description as “Jew-ish” or “aspirationally Jewish,” a term he used to convey his admiration and affinity for Jewish values and people without claiming formal heritage.
