Trump’s ICE Agents halt due to measles at Texas center holding child, dad.

Measles Outbreak Halts Operations at Dilley Facility

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has suspended all movement within the Dilley Immigration Processing Center in Texas following a measles outbreak, as announced by officials on Sunday. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that two detainees were diagnosed with the disease on Saturday, coinciding with the release of a 5-year-old boy and his father from the facility. This release had previously drawn significant public attention and concern last month.

Quarantine Measures and Health Response Implemented

Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated that on January 31, 2026, the Texas Department of State Health Services verified the active measles infections at the center. ICE health officials promptly initiated quarantine protocols for the affected individuals and those suspected of contact to contain the spread. Medical staff are actively monitoring conditions, providing appropriate care, and taking steps to prevent further infections, ensuring all detainees receive proper medical attention.

Comprehensive Care and National Measles Context

Officials highlighted that the facility offers extensive health services, including medical, dental, and mental health care, which often exceeds what many immigrants have experienced previously. This includes 24-hour emergency access. In a broader context, the U.S. saw a record 2,267 measles cases last year, with Texas reporting at least 762 in the west, leading to two deaths and 99 hospitalizations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state data.

Recent Scrutiny and Planned Inspections

The Dilley center has faced increased scrutiny after detaining 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos and his father, Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias, prompting Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro to announce facility inspections later this week. Castro’s office noted that the measles cases were reported shortly after his pledge, but confirmed that he and his staff are vaccinated. The released father and son underwent full medical exams and were cleared of any risk before leaving.
