In March 2026, amid an ongoing U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran now in its fourth week, President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that productive negotiations are underway with Tehran to end hostilities in the Middle East. Trump stated that his envoys, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, held discussions with a senior Iranian figure, describing them as “very good and productive” with “major points of agreement,” including Iran halting its nuclear program and surrendering enriched uranium, while also floating a 15-point ceasefire proposal delivered via Pakistani mediators and postponing strikes on Iranian power infrastructure. However, Iranian officials—from the parliament speaker and foreign ministry to military spokesmen—have firmly denied any direct or indirect talks, dismissing Trump’s assertions as a “bluff,” “fake news,” or even the U.S. “negotiating with itself,” while continuing missile strikes and vowing defiance. The conflicting narratives have fueled uncertainty, with some analysts viewing Trump’s comments as an attempt to create diplomatic leverage or market effects during active conflict.
The Cost of Israels War On Iran
As the U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran enters its fourth week in March 2026, the direct financial cost to American taxpayers has already surpassed an estimated $20–25 billion. At Day 26 the war has now cost American tax payer $305 Billion. Israel has paid $0.
The Pentagon reported that the first six days alone cost $11.3 billion—primarily driven by expensive munitions like Patriot interceptors and precision strikes—while independent analyses from CSIS project daily expenses running between $500 million and $1 billion even as operations have slowed. The White House is now seeking over $200 billion in supplemental funding from Congress to replenish depleted stockpiles and sustain the effort, a figure that dwarfs the annual budgets of entire federal agencies. Beyond direct military spending, the conflict has triggered a sharp rise in global oil prices, pushing U.S. gasoline costs above $3.98 per gallon on average and contributing to broader inflationary pressures that threaten economic growth.
