Rubio Complains: America Alone Must Use Nukes to Blackmail Other Countries.
Marco Rubio complains how they are losing the war, and how the Trump admin lost the 2026 Iran war on day 1 because Iran had better missiles and strategies. Rubio goes on to complain how Iran cant have weapons but the U.S.A can, including Nuclear weapons. Marco Rubio then continues to lie to the American people about how Them and the Trump admin were doing “peace talks” with Iran and Iran said Rubio and Trump were lying the whole time and also did the talks in bad faith. Rubio desperately continues on more about how Iran had more and better drones, missiles than the U.S. military. He complains how they fired 2 missiles destroying Mq9 reaper drones, over 138 U.S. drones have been taken down. ($45 billion cost). Marco continues to complain how Iran cannot defend themselves and should have no weapons to do so, but America can have the worlds largest military and most nuclear bombs.
On March 30, 2026, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio gave an exclusive interview to Al Jazeera’s Hashem Ahelbarra, discussing the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran, indirect talks with Tehran through intermediaries, the need for Iran to abandon its nuclear and missile programs, and his assertion that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen “one way or another” once the conflict ends, while expressing disappointment with certain NATO allies for restricting US access to their bases
Video Transcript:
(0:00) Whether it is depends on your point of view. Now he sat down for a wide-ranging interview (0:05) with Al Jazeera about the conflict, what it hoped to achieve and where those hopes lie now. (0:12) We’ll be breaking all of this down with a range of guests and correspondents throughout the show.
(0:16) Richard Gaisford is at the State Department for us today and our America’s Bureau Chief (0:20) Hashim Albara joins us in studio to discuss his interview with the Secretary of State. (0:25) We’ll also be joined by diplomatic and former administration guests to share their thoughts (0:30) and insights into where this war is headed. But first, here’s a short taste of what’s to come.
(0:36) The Iranian regime can never have nuclear weapons. The United States is committed to (0:40) finishing the job. The Straits of Hormuz will be open.
When this operation is over, (0:45) it will be open. It’s very opaque right now. It’s not quite clear how decisions are being (0:49) made inside of Iran.
If we decided tomorrow that we were going to remove our troops from Europe, (0:53) that would be the end of NATO. The Secretary of State has been a prominent face of America’s war (0:59) on Iran now in its fifth week. So how does America’s principal foreign policy advisor (1:05) see the hostilities ending? And how did the US, under a president who promised no new wars, (1:11) find itself in an expanding global conflict? Let’s take a listen to Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
(1:17) Well, there’s messages and some direct talks going on between some inside of Iran and the (1:23) United States, primarily through intermediaries, but there’s been some conversation. And I think (1:27) the president always prefers diplomacy, always prefers an outcome. And we could have done this (1:31) before.
Imagine an Iranian regime who, instead of spending billions of dollars supporting terrorist (1:37) groups and building up all these weapons, had invested that money into Iran, for the people (1:42) of Iran, so they wouldn’t have water shortages, so their economies would provide opportunities (1:46) for an incredible people. The people of Iran are incredible people, very resourceful, (1:50) very entrepreneurial, but it’s their regime that’s been a problem. And instead, they’ve (1:54) chosen to spend the wealth of their country to support Hezbollah and Hamas and Shia militias (2:00) inside of Iraq, and to try to destabilize Syria when Assad was there, and all over the world to (2:07) sponsor terrorist plots and build these drones and build these weapons to threaten their neighbors, (2:10) unnecessarily.
So we would always welcome a scenario in which Iran was led by people (2:15) that had a different view of the future and had a different view. And if that opportunity presents (2:20) itself, we’re going to take it. What are your main demands for Iran at this particular stage? (2:26) The Iranian regime can never have nuclear weapons, and they need to stop sponsoring (2:30) terrorism, and they need to stop building weapons that can threaten their neighbors.
(2:34) These short-range missiles that they’re launching, they only have one purpose, (2:37) and that is to attack Saudi Arabia and the UAE and Qatar and Kuwait and Bahrain. That is the range (2:44) of these weapons, and they have thousands of them. They’ve built extraordinary numbers of them, (2:49) not to mention their desire to have this nuclear weapon to threaten and blackmail the world with.
(2:54) That will never be allowed to happen. It’s too great a risk. (2:57) What would you consider to be the minimum concession from Tehran to bring this conflict to an end? (3:02) I think they have to take demonstrable steps towards ending any ambition of having nuclear (3:07) weapons.
If what they want is nuclear energy, there are multiple countries in the region that (3:11) will soon have nuclear energy, and they’re going to do it through a well-established mechanism that (3:16) everyone else has agreed to. That is that you import the fuel, and that fuel is used to power (3:23) up your power grid and provide energy resources for your people. What they cannot have is a system (3:28) that allows them to quickly weaponize it.
They have to stop making all of these drones and all (3:32) of these missiles. We saw recently where they’ve lied. They said they didn’t have long-range (3:37) missiles, and then they fired two that extended well beyond the range of what their own foreign (3:41) minister just a few days earlier said they didn’t have the range to reach.
They have to abandon all (3:46) these weapon programs and all their nuclear ambitions. If they do that, then Iran’s future (3:50) can be bright. But they have to choose that path, and for 47 years they’ve refused that path.
(3:56) The role of Secretary of State is, of course, run out of the State Department. (4:00) It leads America’s foreign affairs. Let’s go now to Richard Gaisford, who joins us from the (4:04) State Department.
Richard, the State Department is supposed to take the lead on foreign relations, (4:09) but this is a conflict that has been publicly led by the President a lot of the time. How does (4:14) Marco Rubio manage that? I think you can say that Marco Rubio is the man in the background (4:21) who’s been building the framework. He’s very much aligned with this idea of putting maximum pressure (4:27) and maintaining that pressure on the Iranian regime.
You’re right, he’s a big supporter of (4:33) Donald Trump, a big backer of this war. He’s not running it though, but in the weeks leading up to (4:38) it, we certainly saw him on maneuvers. He was in Israel, very supportive also of the Gulf states, (4:44) in effect creating this scaffold, this support system of diplomacy around the upcoming military (4:51) action.
And now that that’s happened, perhaps we have the unintended consequences of the situation (4:57) in the Strait of Hormuz, very much focused again on the diplomacy, trying to find a way through that. (5:03) But as we’ll hear in this interview with Hashem today, he’s saying, listen, you know, we’ll either (5:09) open the Strait of Hormuz by force or we will do it through a deal. It seems all options are on the (5:15) table here.
Yeah, Richard, as you pointed out, Rubio has been a constant public voice on this (5:20) war on Iran and its objectives. What has his messaging been? Well, perhaps at the start it (5:28) was seen as slightly confused. He was accused by some even within the Republican Party of (5:34) effectively doing Israel’s work.
You might recall in the two days after the conflict started, he (5:41) said that the Americans jumped in before Israel because they knew the Israelis were going to do (5:45) something. Since then, he’s perhaps been used as the person who explains best what the Americans (5:51) are trying to achieve. We saw him doing that, speaking quite firmly to G7 foreign ministers at (5:57) that meeting in France last week.
That’s where he said he didn’t believe that ground troops were (6:02) needed to achieve the goals. And speaking to Hashem today, you know, he’s explained how they’ve (6:08) already destroyed the Navy, the Air Force. They’re working on these missile launch sites.
But when (6:14) that is done, they will then look at the Strait of Hormuz. And perhaps that is the stickiest problem (6:19) for him. So lots of talk about talks.
But the Iranians today, Anna, say, listen, you know, (6:25) there are no direct communications. And the communications they’re getting being conveyed (6:30) through Pakistan, they believe them to be maximists and certainly not in the way that (6:37) they will be happy to accept.
