Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder and the most common cause of dementia worldwide. It primarily affects older adults, gradually destroying memory, thinking skills, and the ability to carry out simple daily tasks. The disease is characterized by the buildup of abnormal protein deposits in the brain, including amyloid plaques and tau tangles, which lead to the death of brain cells and shrinkage of brain tissue, especially in areas responsible for memory and cognition. Early symptoms often include forgetting recent events, confusion, difficulty with language, and changes in mood or behavior. While there is currently no cure, early diagnosis and treatments can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life for both patients and caregivers. Ongoing research focuses on early detection, slowing disease progression, and potential future therapies.
