The Board of Deputies of British Jews issued a statement on April 7, 2026, welcoming the UK government’s decision to prevent Kanye West from entering the country due to concerns raised by the Jewish community. They expressed deep regret that the Wireless Festival initially invited him and then “doubled down” despite objections from the Jewish community and allies. The festival has since been cancelled, but the organization believes the situation should have been resolved much earlier.The statement emphasizes the need for lessons to be learned across the music industry, stressing that festivals should be inclusive spaces for all communities rather than platforms for individuals with records of antisemitism, racism, and other hateful views. It thanks supporters across the political spectrum and other minority groups, while urging the entire arts and culture sector, along with civil society, to recognize antisemitism and address Jewish concerns when booking controversial acts. The statement is signed by Phil Rosenberg, President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews.
