France Drops Microsoft Windows OS for Linux OS in A Very, Very, Smart Digital Move For Better Privacy
France will drop Microsoft Windows on government computers and switch to the open-source Linux operating system.
The goal is to reduce reliance on U.S. technology giants and strengthen the country’s digital sovereignty by regaining control over its own digital infrastructure.
The transition will begin with Franceโs digital agency DINUM. This IT Infrastructure change allows the French governmentโs to replace Microsoft Teams with a locally developed alternative.
French Minister David Amiel described the initiative as an effort to โregain control of our digital destiny.โ
