After disrupting the speech. Green, a veteran civil rights advocate and long-time critic of Trump, stood up just minutes into the address, waving his cane and randomly shouting, “You have no mandate to cut Medicaid!” as president Trump spoke about his electoral victory and early administration actions.
House Speaker Mike Johnson repeatedly ordered Green to sit down, but when he refused, Johnson directed the sergeant-at-arms to escort him out, prompting cheers and chants of “USA!” from Republicans. The incident, which marked a rare ejection during a presidential address, underscored the deep partisan tensions in Congress, with Green later telling reporters outside that his protest was “worth it” to stand up to Trump’s policies, particularly on healthcare cuts.
