Pima Sheriff Relies on Experienced Florida Forensics to Crack Nancy Guthrie Case of black gloves with DNA.
Authorities from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona recovered a pair of black gloves (along with other evidence like unidentified DNA from her property) during searches near her Tucson-area home. These gloves, potentially linked to a masked suspect captured on surveillance video wearing similar black gloves while approaching the residence on February 1, 2026, were sent to DNA Labs International, a private forensic laboratory in Deerfield Beach, Florida, for DNA testing rather than to the FBI’s national crime lab in Quantico, Virginia.
Sheriff Chris Nanos defended this decision by explaining that his department has maintained a long-standing contract with the Florida lab since at least 2022 for biological analysis services, emphasizing the need for consistency in testing all case evidence at one facility—including prior samples from Guthrie family members and close contacts—to streamline the process and ensure comparable results, even amid reports of FBI frustration over delayed access and the need for re-testing. https://america24.news/news/why-is-the-nancy-guthrie-case-moving-slow/
