An illegal immigrant in the U.S. illegally, has been charged with murder and kidnapping in connection with the death of a female Puerto Rican fitness TikToker named Minelys Rodriguez-Ramirez, from Cornelia, Georgia, police report.
Rodriguez-Ramirez, who was engaged at the time of her death, and leaves behind a 9-year-old daughter.
Angel DeJesus Rivera-Sanchez, 24, faces charges of murder and kidnapping in Rodriguez-Ramirez’s case. According to the Northeast Georgian, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) confirmed that Rivera-Sanchez was residing illegally in the U.S.
“Absolutely confirmed,” said State Sen. John Albers. “He is an illegal immigrant from Mexico.” Family members shared that fitness influencer Minelys Rodriguez-Ramirez went missing in late October after a trip to Walmart to exchange a photo with someone. On October 29, police announced that the 25-year-old’s body had been discovered on a road near the Walmart where she was last seen on October 22. Her family reported her missing the following day, on October 23.
“On Monday, October 28, 2024, GBI agents arrested Rivera-Sanchez in Atlanta on kidnapping charges related to the disappearance of Rodriguez-Ramirez,” stated a GBI press release. “Rivera-Sanchez was then transported to the Habersham County Detention Center, where he was booked on the kidnapping charge.”
Using phone records, GBI agents were able to locate Rivera-Sanchez, explained Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell. He added that the Department of Homeland Security has placed a detainer on Rivera-Sanchez, who is in the U.S. illegally. However, Terrell emphasized that immigration status wouldn’t impact the judicial process, stating, “They’re not going to get him until the state of Georgia is done with him, which could be 20, 30, 40 years, or a lifetime.”
Rivera-Sanchez appeared in court on November 1 at the Habersham County Magistrate Court, where he was formally charged with murder and kidnapping. He remains in custody at the Habersham County Jail without bail.
Following the incident, Sen. John Albers urged for stricter immigration policies. “This tragedy was avoidable. This person should never have been in this country,” Albers said. “The evidence is damning, and this is why securing our borders is critical. It’s tragic enough when such events happen, but it’s even more devastating when the individual responsible shouldn’t have been here in the first place.”
Rodriguez-Ramirez, a Puerto Rican fitness influencer known on TikTok for her workout routines and stories about her 9-year-old daughter, had been living in the mainland U.S. for six years after accepting a job at Mt. Vernon Hills Inc. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by her family to cover funeral expenses and transport her remains back to Puerto Rico, her birthplace.
