House Speaker Mike Johnson stated, “During my campaign for Speaker, I pledged to release to the public the 44,000 hours of security footage from January 6, 2021, at the Capitol.”
He emphasized the importance of “truth and transparency,” announcing, “We are now uploading the videos to a public site as quickly as possible, aiming to include nearly all 44,000+ hours. Meanwhile, we’ve set up a viewing room where everyone can watch the videos without censorship.”
“This move will allow millions of Americans, defendants, organizations, and media to see the events firsthand, rather than relying on interpretations by a few officials,” Johnson added.
He praised Chairman Loudermilk and his team for their efforts, saying, “They’ve worked tirelessly to prepare these extensive video collections for online publication.”
Johnson also noted that, “To protect privacy, we will blur the faces in the unreleased footage to prevent retaliation. About 5% of the videos, which contain sensitive security details about the building, will not be disclosed.”
