Why Did Flight 990 Crash?

EgyptAir Flight 990 was a tragic incident that occurred on October 31, 1999, when a Boeing 767-300ER crashed into the Atlantic Ocean approximately 60 miles south of Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, resulting in the loss of all 217 passengers and crew on board.

This disaster remains the deadliest for EgyptAir and ranks as the second-deadliest accident involving a Boeing 767. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) concluded that the crash was due to the relief first officer’s flight control inputs, leading to the airplane’s departure from normal cruise flight and impact with the ocean, although the motive behind his actions was not determined.

The Truth about Flight 990:

Captain Hamdi Hanafi Taha was a pilot for EgyptAir who sought political asylum in London in February 2000 after landing his aircraft there. He claimed to have knowledge about the circumstances surrounding the crash of EgyptAir Flight 990, which occurred on October 31, 1999. According to Taha, first officer Gameel Al-Batouti intentionally crashed the plane as an act of revenge, against an EgyptAir executive who had demoted him and was also on board the flight. Taha’s statements provided a possible motive for the deliberate crash, but his claims were met with skepticism by Egyptian officials and advisers, who dismissed his knowledge of the incident.

Despite this, American investigators and the FBI confirmed key aspects of Taha’s information. However, they decided not to further anger the Egyptian government by officially stating Al-Batouti’s motive. Taha’s employment with EgyptAir was terminated after coming forward, and his asylum application in Britain was reportedly declined. He later gave an extensive newspaper interview in 2002 and was featured in a documentary in 2005. Reasons to believe it was Pilot suicide. 1. The Manual autopilot disconnect 2. Commanded nose-down pitch. 3. Fuel cut-off to BOTH engines. 4. Gameel Al-Batouti Pushes down, as captain pulls up. What do you think?
