The CIA has periodically released few documents related to UFOs, shedding light on the government’s long-standing interest in unidentified flying objects. These documents, often obtained through Freedom of Information Act requests, include a range of materials from internal memos about public inquiries to reports on foreign UFO sightings.
One notable disclosure was in 1997 when the CIA admitted that the U.S. military had misled the public about many UFO sightings in the 1950s and 1960s to conceal the testing of experimental spy planes like the U-2 and SR-71.

More recently, in 2021, the CIA released thousands of pages of UFO-related documents to the Black Vault, an online repository, providing insights into various incidents, including mysterious explosions and sightings by high-ranking officials. These releases, while not confirming extraterrestrial activity, indicate a significant historical interest in UFOs by government intelligence agencies.
