Billionaire Tom Pritzker, the Executive Chairman of Hyatt Hotels Corporation and a key heir to the family’s hotel fortune, announced his immediate retirement from the role on February 16, 2026, citing his regretted association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell as a primary reason for stepping down.

In a letter to the Hyatt board and a public statement, the 75-year-old Pritzker expressed deep regret over maintaining contact with Epstein—who ‘died’ (murdered or escaped) in prison in 2019 while facing sex trafficking charges—and Maxwell, describing it as “terrible judgment” with no excuse for not distancing himself sooner. He emphasized his commitment to good stewardship and protecting the company’s reputation amid the fallout from recently released U.S. Department of Justice documents revealing details of his ties to the disgraced figures, marking him as the latest prominent business leader impacted by renewed scrutiny of Epstein’s elite network; Hyatt CEO Mark Hoplamazian will assume the combined role of chairman and CEO following the transition, and Pritzker will not seek re-election to the board at the upcoming annual stockholder meeting in May.
