U.S. Troops Were Told Iran War Is for “Armageddon,” Return of Jesus.
The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), an advocacy group dedicated to protecting religious freedom in the U.S. military and preventing unconstitutional religious promotion, has received over 100–200 complaints from service members across multiple branches since the onset of U.S. combat operations against Iran (which began around late February or early March 2026, involving strikes described as carpet bombing in some reports).

These complaints, originating from more than 40 units at at least 30 military installations nationwide, allege that commanders and higher leadership are framing the conflict as part of a divine, biblically sanctioned plan rooted in fundamentalist Christian eschatology.
In one detailed account from a non-commissioned officer (NCO), a combat-unit commander reportedly briefed subordinates during a combat readiness session, urging them to reassure troops not to fear the operations because they represent “God’s divine plan.”
The commander allegedly cited passages from the Book of Revelation about Armageddon and the imminent return of Jesus Christ, while stating that President Donald Trump has been “anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth.”
The NCO noted the commander delivered this with a “big grin,” reflecting what MRFF describes as “unrestricted euphoria” among some leaders portraying the war as a prophetic fulfillment to hasten the Christian “End Times.”
These reports highlight serious concerns about violations of the separation of church and state, as well as potential impacts on unit morale, cohesion, and operational effectiveness—particularly for non-Christian personnel (including Muslims, Jews, and others represented in the complaints). MRFF founder Mikey Weinstein, an Air Force veteran, has characterized the pattern as commanders using official briefings to advance religious ideology, with some service members fearing retaliation for speaking out and requesting anonymity. The allegations suggest a broader trend of apocalyptic rhetoric seeping into military communications amid the lack of a clear secular strategic rationale from higher civilian authorities, raising questions about the politicization and religious framing of the ongoing conflict with Iran.
