Day 28: U.S. Warns Allies: Trumps 2026 Iran “War” For Israel, May Delay Ukraine War Weapons
US officials have privately warned key allies that an escalating military conflict with Iran could significantly delay or disrupt planned weapons shipments to Ukraine, according to sources familiar with the discussions.
- Secretary of State Marco Rubio: “Nothing has been diverted. But it could happen.”
- Pentagon statement: “America’s military is the most powerful in the world, and we will ensure that U.S. forces and those of our allies and partners have what they need to fight and win.”
- NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte: “I can assure you that the critical support from the United States into Ukraine paid for by allies [under] PURL continues to flow.”
- NATO diplomat: Diversion of PURL shipments “would be unacceptable” and the implications could be “dire.”
PURL is a NATO-led initiative launched in July 2025 (agreed between the US and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte). It allows European allies, Canada, and other partners to pay for and purchase US-made weapons directly from American manufacturers or stockpiles, which are then sent to Ukraine.
