Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has dismissed two additional senior Army generals, Gen. David Hodne and Maj. Gen. William Green Jr., as part of a broader leadership shake-up at the Pentagon. Hodne, who commanded the Army’s Transformation and Training Command, oversaw efforts to modernize the service and adapt to evolving battlefield technologies. Green Jr. served as the Army’s chief of chaplains. These moves came on the same day Hegseth asked Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George to retire immediately, according to multiple reports citing U.S. defense officials and a Reuters dispatch.
The firings represent the latest in a series of personnel changes under Hegseth aimed at aligning senior military leadership more closely with the current administration’s priorities, particularly amid ongoing U.S. military operations related to the conflict with Iran.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed George’s retirement, expressing gratitude for his service, while officials noted the removals of Hodne and Green without providing detailed public explanations. The abrupt nature of the changes has drawn attention from military observers, especially given George’s role in addressing recruiting challenges and accelerating drone and weapons acquisitions in recent years.
