IED Bomb Discovered at MacDill Air Force Military Base in Tampa Florida
An improvised explosive device (IED) was discovered on March 16, 2026, outside the visitor center at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. The Tampa Florida Bomb at MacDill base was found on Day 17 into the 2026 Trump Iran war for Israel, to expand into the middle east and steal more oil from Iran.
The suspicious package was found near the Dale Mabry Gate around 11:20 a.m., leading authorities to immediately close the gate and cause significant traffic disruptions along South Dale Mabry Highway. Emergency responders and bomb technicians conducted field screening that indicated the possible presence of energetic materials, though the FBI noted that laboratory analysis was still underway to determine if the device was functional.

MacDill Air Force Base serves as the headquarters for U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), responsible for U.S. military operations across the Middle East and Central Asia, and U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM), which oversees America’s elite special operations forces.
The discovery of a suspected IED at this high-profile strategic installation raised serious national security concerns, given the base’s critical role in coordinating global counterterrorism efforts and rapid-response missions. In the aftermath, base officials heightened security measures, including issuing a shelter-in-place order on March 18 in response to a separate reported threat.
The FBI is leading the investigation into the incident. On March 26, 2026, federal prosecutors unsealed indictments charging 20-year-old Alen Zheng with attempting to damage government property by manufacturing and planting the IED, which he allegedly placed on the night of March 10. His sister, Ann Mary Zheng, was also indicted in connection with the plot. Both face charges including making and possessing an improvised explosive device. A video claiming responsibility was reportedly sent to local media detailing a timeline of threats against the base.
