The President of the United States is limited to two terms in office, with each term lasting four years, for a maximum of eight years total. This rule comes from the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, ratified in 1951 after Franklin D. Roosevelt served four terms. Once elected to a second term, a president knows it will be their final four years in the White House.

They cannot run for re-election again, no matter how popular they become or how much they might want to continue serving. This creates a clear endpoint to their political power at the national level.
๐ Because the second term is the last one, some presidents may feel less pressure to worry about long-term political consequences or public approval ratings in their final years. With no future election to win, they might focus more on legacy-building projects, controversial policies, or personal goals rather than strictly what is best for the country’s ongoing future.(Trump Iran War) ๐
๐Critics sometimes argue this “lame duck” period can lead to presidents caring less about the nation’s long-term well-being after their time in office ends, since they will never face the voters again. However, many presidents still work hard to leave a positive mark on history during their second term. ๐
